How to install TurboTax on mac without drive

If you are using windows drive to install TurboTax software on you Mac, read on.

The turbo tax for mac is on separate partition on the DVD which is not read by default from Windows drive. You need HFSBrowser installed on windows.

You will need to install HFSBrowser, Create DMG file from the DVD and share the DMG file location. Copy it to Mac (smb://WINDOWS_MACHINE/LOCATION) and Drag it to applications.

Steps:
First on Windows computer,

  1. Install HFS Explorer
  2. Run HFS Explorer
  3. File -> Load File system from device
  4. Select your drive under "Detected devices"
  5. Click load
  6. Tools -> Create Disk Image
  7. Select the location and provide the image file name and click "Save"
  8. Share the location where you saved the image
Second on Mac computer,

  1. Open Finder
  2. Go -> Connect to Server
  3. Enter the Windows computer name or the ip address
  4. When prompted for name & password, enter the credentials. If unable to connect, it might be because of firewall. Disable Windows firewall and repeat the steps.
  5. Select the volume you want to mount
  6. You will now be able to see the windows shared folder under the "Shared" section in Finder
